Intended to camp at Mt Rosea Camp site after hearing about a campsite there... Arrived Friday night .. nice green sign.. NO CAMPING - area under rehab.Although there were two or three tents there on Saturday night. So off to Troopers for the night. Went back to Rosea Saturday, (first time at Rosea) my mate (who had been there before) 'found' the D for Debutante which we intended to climb- We were a party of 4 with one beginner.. Climber the first pitch - thought 'that was harder than a 14' then my mate remembered that this was nt D for Debutante but D for Diane.. Climbed back done and went up Mixed Climb. We had great weather. Sunday Climbed Queen Bee at Mt Difficult.. please note the Crux on pitch three has some choss rock.. pulled out a few fistfulls of rock just past the traverse.

The Mt Rosea campsite was closed after the fires - naughty people camping there!!! There are some really nice new campsites further up Stoney Creek Rd. No facilities but beautiful spots, about 7 of them so generally no trouble finding a quiet one.

The Tempest/Mentz Select Grampians guidebook is now at least 10 years out of date - so some info is now wrong.

For more information regarding the bush camping and a warning about conditions of rock/trees on Mt Rosea see the CliffCare page of the VCC website http://www.vicclimb.org.au

I can agree with the loose rock on Queen Bee - years ago I broke a hold off just before the traverse (and took a big pendulum fall as a result) when I was seconding that pitch. All part of the adventure...

The Debutante initial has disappeared along with many others. You won't be the first party at Tosea to get on the wrong route because of initials.
The ACA Rosea guide
http://www.climb.org.au/index.php?page_id=10&action=crag&crag_id=401 has all routes at Rosea including the state of initials at the base of climbs.

Thanks for the tips about the campsites, we were car camping and looking for fire places; also the sign on stony creek road impied - walkers only (no cars) ranger access .. it was dark and cold, and troopers has firepits. Does anyone know the facilities at Boreang & Smith Mill Campsites? ie toilets & firepits...

If the rumors are true this might be the last season we can actually light camp fires in the whole park!

Yeah but the parks guys just love starting fires themselves. And there so good at it.
