Europe dreaming... 29-Jul-2008 At 7:57:00 AM jgoding

Thanks guys. I did speak to Geoff Gledhill the other weekend while at Arapiles. He said this route (Yellow Edge) was the one to do. If I got this one done I'd come home a happy man.

I'll take my helmet too! Hopefully these more classic, well done routes might have a little less loose rock than the others - but I'll expect the Warrumbungles and be happy if it's more solid.

So yeah - I'm heading over to Europe in about a month and planning on spending our last 8 days of the 6 week trip in the Dolomites.

Could anyone offer any words of encouragement on this short list of routes I've been working on (or make suggestions of others you think might be better)?

Day 1: Tre Cime. Cima Piccolissima. Yellow Edge (17.3c, VI, 350m)
Day 2: Punta Frida: South-East Face. (17.2b, VI+, 350m)
Day 3: Rest / travel / Shop
Day 4: Sella Group. 4th Sella Tower. North Face (5.4b, VI+, 340m)
Day 5: Sella Group. 2nd Sella Tower. North West Ridge (5.2c, VI-, 420m)
Day 6: Rest / travel / walk to Hut: Carnielli Bivouac
Day 7: Spiz Di Mezzo Nth West Arete (Scarf ridge) (14.5a, 400m, V+)
Day 8: Drive to Venice...

Any thoughts? We're wondering about maybe dropping the Spiz Di Mezzo and just hanging out in either Tre Cime or the Sella group for an extra day... but also wondering how good the Cinque Torri is. It looks good but maybe not quite as big/classic?

Also - if anyone's got any ideas on accommodation that would be great (oh yeah - and how likely are we to have our car broken into, and is there anything you can do about it?) We were thinking of staying at the Auronzo hut while in the Tre Cime region, not sure about the Sella Pass accom.

Also the grade conversions I'm pretty unclear about (probably subjective at the best of times) but we're wanting to be pretty conservative with our missions as the routes are so long, and some might take a while to get down from too!).

I look forward to hearing from you.
