It would help if you provided a little more information. How old you are, what type of climbing you are looking to do (indoor/outdoor), your current level of experience etc etc.
If you are looking for outdoor groups have a look into Newcastle University Mountaineering Club (http://numc.nusa.org.au) or the Sydney Rock Climbing Club (http://www.sydneyrockies.org.au/).
As somebody else has said, sometimes the best way to get into climbing is go to a climbing gym, somebody posted a link above. If you go to a gym on a regular basis you'll soon make friends and get involved in outdoor climbing trips.

Profile says 22, and, is just getting back into the game. His other post/thread tends to confirm this degree of inexperience...
Back on topic.
Borrow your mum's clothes line, grab a handful of hexagon nuts of assorted sizes from your dad's shed, sling them on some spare cord, rob snaplink connectors off the neighbours dog collars, and go for it, preferably after reading 'Freedom of the hills' or some other litrerary classic!
Failing that, find a group who undertakes the activities you want to pursue. Scouts, Universities, Climbing Gyms, etc.
