My girlfriend and i are heading to Tassie around easter, and we're just wondering the best places are to climb. We'll be in the north around the Beaconsfield area but can get our hands on a car so can head off for trips about. Any direction would be great.

I have greatly enjoyed the climbing and the atmosphere in Freycinet.
More generally check out thesarvo climbing guides.

Agree on Freycinet. I also think it's a terrific spot for a 'girlfriend who doesn't climb very much' holiday. Lots of other things to do around the place and Coles Bay is bloody beautiful.
I'll be there doing just that in a couple of weeks.

Hi Tim,
If your up near Beaconsfield, is not too far to Hillwood. Its pretty much all sport climbs with a pretty reasonable selection from the mid-teens into the mid-twenties. I don't think there is an online guide for it so you may need to buy a hard copy from an outdoor shop in Launceston.

Tim, you can gain an idea about climbing at Hillwood, and other N.E. Tasmania crags, on TheSarvo
website:
http://www.thesarvo.com/confluence/display/thesarvo/North+East
You'll find the following guides recommended in the section covering Hillwood:-
* Climb Northern Tasmania by Bob McMahon and Gerry Narkowicz has the full guide.
* Climb Tasmania Selected Best has photo topos of the best routes.
