We used to drill holes into hard steel (perhaps they were chromolly??) bongs until Chouinard brought out
a range of alluminium bongs with pre-drilled holes. These were much more expensive than the heavy
older versions. I wrote a pathetic letter to Chouinard complaining about the price, to which he replied that
if he could sell more the price would drop. Doh! The introduction of tube chocks essentially spelt the end
for Bongs. No hammer necessary and suitable for even wider cracks than was the biggest bong.
