Contacts are only for myopia (short-sightedness). Wearing my glasses for driving, cycling and watching movies - and no problem normally for reading and viewing the VDU with the glasses on. Hyperopia (long-sightedness) will not allow you to view things in the distance while viewing things close at hand with your glasses are on. This appears to be what you are saying. I don't have an answer to your issue, but being on the wrong side of 40 now, my myopia is easing up - my vision is improving (which is a reason why Lasik surgery is not reccommended for people over 40). But I probably will need glasses for reading due to said hyperopia/presbyopia (age-related eyesight diminishment) in the next few years.
