any scanner will scan prints ok - you only need to be able to scan at 300 dpi (dots per inch) and any
scanner will do that. USB2 is pretty much as fast as firewire so don't worry about the connection. If you
want something to scan slides as well, many will do it but few will do it well. You need to be able to scan
at or close to 4000 dpi for slides. I've been through two scanners (a canon and an epson) before getting
an epson v700 which scans slides (you can scan 12 at a time) to the quality of a dedicated slide scanner
but cost $750

One of the scanners I got rid of was the CanoScan 8600 that Stefan is recommending. Your scans look
good Stefan but I could never get good slide scans out of mine, it had a crap driver on the mac and made
a brain-piercing whine - but it's under $300 now.
