well guess i'm a bit slow,have just found this disscussion. One thing that seems to be continutiously overlooked is a system similar to that of the hut system in new zealand. i feel that parks could and should fund the implementation of SMALL ECO_FREINDILY HUTS IN DISCREET AREAS (possibily relocatable to move if area gets too impacted upon) that people could walk to with the minimal ammount of gear. I feel this would be a good option for the climbing community. they could be maintained by the users. This is just something to think about. Parks have been charging high prices for camping so perhaps its about time they provide a range of accomodation options for all park users. The is part of a larger solution that needs to address car-based camping as well as all things mentioned in the disscussion. This system does not follow the glamping type system that is currently appearing in areas such as Cradle Mountain, but is a free to use first come first serve basis with a register(could be on-line so you check availability and register before you leave home) Anyways just a few more ideas to throw into the pot.
