hello. i m french and i speak a very bad english.
I'll come climbing and travelling for one year in australia and i try to know where i'll can climb, how hard is it, what are the best guide-books...
The another questions is the price of matérial in australia, in specially rope, crach-
pads and friends.
I dont know if it is better for me to come with all this things from france or if it is better to buy in australia.
If somebody is interresting i will be happy to answer questions about limbing in france.
thank you (i will be happy to have correction about my englisch, i try to learn but i am only a beginner).

[can't resist]

My going rate is two packets of kool fruits per week to be your friend. For this I won't give you any wedgies, will tell all the girls how good a kisser you are, and you can hang out with me after school.

As for a rope I think you will find even with paying any possible excess weight for your flight it will be cheaper to buy it in France...

Book your flight with a stop over in Hong Kong and buy all your cams, wires and hexes there. It's
expensive in Australia.

There will be a new guidebook for Arapiles very shortly (now that Simey is on the wagon), and you won’t
want to climb anywhere else. There are no guidebooks available for Queensland, as nobody up there
knows how to read or write. NSW is populated entirely by yuppie lawyers, so don't go there, and there is
nothing except dust and flies out west, and you will die horribly if you go there.

Bolts are banned in Australia, and you will have your body cavities searched by Customs Agents upon
arrival to ensure you don't try and smuggle any in.

I was under the impression that most/all climbing gear was cheaper in Europe than Australia.
Bring it with you & use it, then sell it for a reasonable price before you leave to help defray your holiday costs.
About the only thing you won't find over there will be bolt brackets.

Q.

A.
Most anything vertical or overhanging; blerrie hard; Simey guides.

If you are coming for one year, you might be interested to know that we only climb when it is warm (40+ C); or crowded (about three or four others in the general area). Our favourite areas are west facing cliffs during the afternoon.
We don't like climbing in the rain and are currently blessed with a drought, so it is now climbing season all year long.
:)
