Hey all
My mate and I will be down to be abused by your glorious rock for a period of about 6 weeks. We should be arriving in about 1 weeks time (small pitt stop at the Blue Mountains!). We were wondering if there was a TOTAL fire ban in place at both of these locations, or whether gas fires are still OK?!?!?!
Our home Crag at Frog Buttress in QLD has just been totally closed due to the fire danger.
Also are the Arapiles likely to be packed over the Long Weekend for your Horse Race? If so is there a better place to be?

By "Horse Race" I assume you mean this weekend (Nov 2nd/3rd), which many are making into a long weekend with the Melbourne Cup holiday... Yes, there is likely to be quite few at Araps, since the VCC is also holding some kind of gathering there. It shouldn't be anywhere near as crowed as Easter break though. If you want to get away from people, just head into the Grampians.
Re fire ban. Good question. The offical word is "Mount Arapiles will be a fuel-stoves-only area for a six month period from 1st November to 30th April each year". So, yeah, gas burners are okay. I've never heard of an area down here being totally closed due to fire danger.
Sounds like you've got a great trip planned. Have fun!

The Grampians and Arapiles are still cold and wet at this time of year. No chance of a fire ban! The weather is perfect mid teens to low 20's with the occasional hot day. We will be int he Grampians so hopefully we migth catch up.

Leave for Blue Mountains Tomorrow........ probably 3-4 days there...... 2 more days to Arapiles (Via a winery or 5), so maybe around the 7th - 8th Nov at Arapiles, then Day trips or weekends to Gramps whenever we want.
