I know that problem well Hangdoggy. My almost 6yo daughter (and I think almost every young child) has that fear of heights (very healthy attitude really). Yep take your time and then whammo out of the blue, they start toping out. My daughter achieved this status this very week and managed it ten times, that was her target not mine. I was somewhat stunned with her audacity.
I think taking them out into the great outdoors and finding really short (5m) and easy stuff (grade 3) is also a huge time for the little ones. It is not so intimidating as a vertical wall at the local gym and they also get to play in the dirt!!!!
