Hello everyone. I was talking with Dominic yesterday (Dr. Dominic Briscomb; he is looking after Athlon for me) about injuries in climbers and how it correlates with training. We both completed degrees exercise physiology before starting Osteopathy, and hence the inclusion of training methods. I am not sure of how much interest there would be, but we were thinking of doing a seminar covering this topic: principally based around the idea of training smartly and avoiding injury. It is something that comes up in practice all the time. Most of these cases are individually tailored at the time, as they revolve around an existing injury. It would ,however, be very easy to lecture on these as a pre-injury way of training; things to avoid, misconceptions, etc.
What do people think? Thought I would float the idea here first to gauge interest. I am guessing there would be about a $10 charge to cover costs, but that is all.

Sounds excellent.
Is it a travelling road show? If not, then heaps of notice would be appreciated for those of us at a distance to try and schedule the 'travel to it' in.

hey Rod. how are you? i am thinking that i would make it for around the end of july or start of august. the other option would be to do it in about 2 and half weeks, though this would take some serious organising. i am leaning toward say the 5th of august if there was enough interest.

Yep, you can sign TWO of us up.
We aren't campus boarding, boulder cranking super heros (can only aspire at this stage)... but we have started to do the odd pull-up in our attempts to get stronger. Would the seminar be just as applicable for us 'begginners'?
Cheers, Petter.
(funnily enough I am presently seeing Dominic with a dud finger)

hi Petter, even better as A) you will hopefully be able to change the way you train more readily than the advanced/geriatric climber, and B) you wont go through the injury-learning-curve which most of us have. you could save yourself a whole-lotta angst, and be further ahead than you otherwise would be a year down the track. injuries certainly slow your progress; 90% of the problem is recognising when you are about to injure yourself, and then actually stopping!
which we may do as a seperate seminar- a protocol for assessing your own injuries. most start of as a recognisable niggle, ansd then progress into something much bigger.

Julian.... are you keen on doing a seminar in Sydney? Would be interested not only from a climbing point of view, but also being a medical-type person, would be keen to get a bit of education in the area!
Maybe I could come to your seminar in Melbourne and write the trip off on tax!!
