The asbestos story and facts are well know - they were aired relatively recently with the corporate avoidance strategy used (legally!) by James Hardie - going off shore. Yes, a compensation fund was set up, but it is predicted by most to run out of money well before compensation claims stop. Why were they allowed to do this?

Myself, I've been exposed as a science teacher (stacking asbestos mats in cupoboards repeatedly and breathing in the dust in the 80s - pink asbestos), crawling around on an asbestos riddled roof covering building greenhouse at a school for several days (top of a second story building), downwind of a school being demolished (again with asbestos freely exposed and disturbed). That was in the 90s. All of that exposure was as a Govt School teacher at work.
What really upsets me is that asbestos was used because it was cheap and it served its' purpose. But the dangers were known in 1956.
There's nothing I can do about my exposure now. I figure everyone my age has had exposure - most just will not know when, how and how much. The future is just a lottery. Sadly Lincoln lost. We are all the poorer for his passing.
