Forest to be cut down in Yosemite |

According to yesterday's Age, millions of dollars will be spent over ten years in Yosemite National Park to cut down trees which are obscuring views of features such as Yosemite Falls and Bridalveil Falls.
It's actually a pretty serious problem, as you can judge from the photo of Yosemite Falls below. Given the parlous state of the US Government finances and the fact that they have to borrow an extra 1.5 trillion dollars every year, it's great to see that they can find the money for worthwhile environmental projects like this.
(Yosemite Falls is the one above the tree tops. The photo was taken about 3 years ago and I'm sure the trees have grown a lot since then.)

That is a link to a sad article.
Tourons photographing from cars, and whinging about trees obscuring the views; ... is that the end result of rules and regs protecting people from themselves?

Heaven forbid that the tourists would actually have to get out of their car and walk to see something stunning.
What a crock of shit. The demands of lazy people destroying one of the most famous and beautiful natural areas in the world. Pathetic.

>''Enjoyment means allowing people to connect with nature. But you have to be able to see it,'' he said.
Is he saying that he can't see the forest for the trees?
I suggest that he connect with nature by jumping off the nose of El Cap. I'm sure he'd eventually connect with the trees at approximately 200 km/h.

They should get rid of those pesky mountains as well, they get in the way of the view too.

Problem is when they get out of their car, they have a tendency of getting into trouble....

From that link.

While I agree with the sentiment, let's not forget that the floor of Yosemite valley is already extensively modified by humans. Until 1878 much of it used to be a swamp every spring - 1878 being the year they dynamited a terminal moraine in the lower valley so the Merced wouldn't back up.

Damn you, providing facts that get in the way of good old unfettered and uninformed outrage!
